St. John of Capistrano
Patron of Jurists
1386 - 1456
St. John was born at Capistrano, Italy in 1385, the son of a former German knight in that city. He studied law at the University of Perugia and practiced as a lawyer in the courts of Naples. King Ladislas of Naples appointed him governor of Perugia. During a war with a neighboring town he was betrayed and imprisoned. Upon his release he entered the Franciscan community at Perugia in 1416. He and St. James of the March were fellow students under St. Bernardine of Siena, who inspired him to institute the devotion to the holy Name of Jesus and His Mother. John began his brilliant preaching apostolate with a deacon in 1420. After his ordination he traveled throughout Italy, Germany, Bohemia, Austria, Hungary, Poland, and Russia preaching penance and establishing numerous communities of Franciscan renewal. When Mohammed II was threatening Vienna and Rome, St. John, at the age of seventy, was commissioned by Pope Callistus III to preach and lead a crusade against the invading Turks. Marching at the head of seventy thousand Christians, he gained victory in the great battle of Belgrade against the Turks in 1456. Three months later he died at Illok, Hungary. His feast day is October 23. He is the patron of jurists.

St. John Capistrano, pray for our country, Malaysia as well as for all countries who are at important crossroads, in the choice of a democratically elected Government. May all electoral fraud and manipulation be exposed and wiped out before it is too late. In my working life help me to contribute earnestly and sincerely to the well being of my family, children, grandchildren, the students and church community. Most of all, dear Saint grant me graces to be humble and persevering in my prayers. Amen.
Dear St. John of Capistrano, I pray to you for intercession with Our Lord Jesus Christ, that the owners and managers of the company that I have been working with, for straight 14 years be bestowed with graces of discernment, good judgment and fairness. Please manifest yourself through an answered prayer but if it is not Jesus' will, I accept it. I know there is something better that awaits me. Amen.
Please pray for Jacob that he finds the right path, for his parents that they find the strenght and wisdom to guide him and for all cancer patients that they deal with their disease with grace and dignity. Thank you.

St. John of Capistrano, brave and bold, soldier, preacher and lawyer, clearly, God has blessed you with much and expected much from you. Our political world today, is not much different. We intercede for Catholics who live in predominantely Muslim countries, to continue witnessing their Faith through works of mercy for the poor. I believe that God will protect and restore His Church through all times of trials and tribulations. But He wants us to be faithful and loyal to Him. On your feast day, grant us great mercies and protection from our enemies whoever they may be, because on our own we are nothing. Dear St. John of Capistrano. pray for all who are vulnerable, especially children who are suffering the torment of Fragile X. FInd them a permanent, miraculous cure. Restore to them the right to a healthy life, education and living skills. Intercede for all lawyers too, that they may work for social justice. Amen.
Dictionary of Saints, John J. Delaney, Doubleday Books, 1980, reports he died at Villach, Austria, October 23rd. 1456 of the plague. Janos Hunyady with whom he led the Hungarians in the Battle of Belgrade died of the plague only weeks earlier. Their victory over the Turks in this pivotal battle and subsequent siege prevented the Turks from overrunning Europe.
He Died on my birthday ;)
