She loves her lesbian mothers, but 'desperately wanted a daddy.'

Heather Barwick is a gay marriage advocate who was raised by two lesbian mothers. However, she recently published an open letter entitled "Dear Gay Community: Your Kids Are Hurting" in the Federalist. She stated she loves her two mothers and the gay community, but now opposes same-sex marriage, due to the long-term consequences she now has recognized, in herself, after having her own family.

We ask you, humbly: don't scroll away.

Highlights

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Although she was treated by her stepmother as her own daughter, she grew up desperately wanting a father, who she described as not a great guy for not even coming back for her after the divorce.

"I'm writing to you because I'm letting myself out of the closet: I don't support gay marriage. But it might not be for the reasons that you think," she wrote, "It's not because you're gay. I love you, so much. It's because of the nature of the same-sex relationship itself."

Barwick explained that her family structure has left her feeling conflicted by longing for her father to come back and hating him for not staying.

She noted that children need both a mother and a father, which same-sex parenting cannot do. Although she said not all straight parents' children were raised successfully, "the best and most successful family structure is one in which kids are being raised by both their mother and father."

Barwick insisted that children raised by gay parents shouldn't be afraid of speaking up, especially if they are hurting. At the end, she reminds that the letter was not about hate, for she grew up with them and knows how members of the gay community are living, in pain and in malice.
