MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - In his response to the "Juno" actress's line of questioning, he stated, "We're seeing Bible-believing Christians being persecuted for living according to their faith."
Cruz cited the case of Dick and Betty Odgaard, the Iowa couple who lost their business for refusing to participate in a same-sex "wedding" ceremony.
"We're a country that respects pluralism and diversity, and there is this liberal intolerance that says that anyone who follows a Biblical teaching... must be persecuted, must be fined, must be driven out of business," he continued.
Afterwards, Page mentioned homosexuals previously being jailed in some states.
America is far from anti-gay today, according to Cruz, but, "ISIS is executing gay people. Iran is executing homosexuals. And on the Left, you hear complete silence about Iran hanging homosexuals."
However, Page responded that it was "Christians in Russia, Christians in Uganda, Christians in Jamaica" who were "persecuting gays to a really, really violent extent."
Cruz rebutted that Jamaica "may not be celebrating a gay pride parade, but they're not murdering people."
"Does that trouble you at all - that you draw a moral equivalence between Christians in Jamaica and radical Islamic terrorists in ISIS that are beheading children?" Cruz asked the actress. "They're not morally equivalent. Murder is murder is murder, and... it's wrong across the board."
Page tried to interrupt the Senator as he was speaking, but Cruz asked her to stop. After the conversation, the actress wanted to continue making her point.
"We've had a long discussion," said Cruz, to which Page replied, "Yeah, I appreciate it."
Cruz later admitted he did not know the actress came out as a lesbian last year.
